The period surrounding death can often be stressful and challenging for any family, and most people are often unprepared to navigate this time of uncertainties. End-of-life doulas assist in easing some of the mental and emotional burden that naturally emerges during this process. We prioritize ensuring that the last days are peaceful and dignified, filled with both grace and meaning. We support the family in preparing for and processing the transition of their loved one. A doula can also be an incredible resource in managing practical and logistical concerns, freeing up precious time and energy to focus on their loved one and each other instead.

End-of-life doula support may include education and guidance as well as emotional, spiritual, or practical care, as early as initial diagnosis through the bereavement period, and at any time in between.

There are a variety of ways in a which an end-of-life doula will serve these needs:

  • Educating the dying person and family about the dying process

  • Assisting with advance care and end-of-life planning

  • Creating uniquely-tailored vigil plans

  • Doing life review and legacy work

  • Designing rituals to support and integrate transitions

  • Advocating for your needs and collaborating with medical team/hospice, caregivers and loved ones

  • Providing practical, spiritual, and emotional support before, during, and just after death

  • Providing bereavement support for loved ones

Working with an end-of-life doula ensures that you will support and guidance throughout the end-of-life process. You don’t have to do this

End-of-Life-Planning

Creating clarity, comfort, and peace of mind

Advance care planning is a loving act—for yourself and for those who will one day care for you.

As a Butterfly Doula, I gently guide you through this important process so your wishes are known, honored, and held with care.

Support may include assistance with advance directives (living wills), organizing essential documents, clarifying end-of-life care preferences, and exploring disposition options that feel aligned with your values. This work can also extend to thoughtful decisions about the belongings and treasures you wish to pass on.

Together, we create a plan that offers peace of mind and allows your loved ones to remain present, rather than burdened by uncertainty, when the time comes.

Companionship & Meaningful Conversation

A steady presence through tender moments

At every stage of life’s transitions, companionship matters. Gentle conversation, shared silence, and human connection can be deeply grounding—especially for individuals living with dementia, where presence and familiarity support dignity and belonging.

As a compassionate companion, I offer a calm, attentive presence and an empathetic ear. Whether we are reminiscing about cherished memories, exploring fears or hopes, or simply sitting quietly together, I honor each moment with warmth, patience, and respect for your unique journey.

Life Review & Legacy Work

Honoring the story that lives on

Life review is a reflective process of remembering, exploring, and making meaning of the experiences that have shaped a life. While it draws from the past, it often brings clarity, peace, and renewed purpose in the present.

Using a variety of approaches—such as life story work, dignity therapy, guided reflection, and creative projects—I support you in telling your story in a way that feels authentic and empowering. There are no rules or timelines for this work. You do not need to be elderly or facing a terminal diagnosis. This offering is for anyone wishing to honor their life and what matters most.

Together, we create a legacy project that reflects you—your voice, your values, and your love.

Legacy project examples may include:

  • A scrapbook or memory book

  • A collection of cherished recipes

  • A quilt or blanket made from meaningful clothing or fabric

  • A life review worksheet or guided reflection

  • An edited dignity therapy recording or transcript

  • Words of wisdom for loved ones (an Ethical Will)

  • Handprints in plaster or paint

  • A video montage of stories, memories, or guidance

  • Cards or gifts for future birthdays, holidays, or milestones

  • A poem, story, or song

  • A playlist of meaningful music

Caregiver Support

Holding the caregivers, too

Caregiving is a profound act of love—and it can be physically and emotionally demanding. I offer heart-centered support so caregivers can rest, restore, and feel less alone.

Support may include sitting with your loved one at home or in a care facility, light household tasks, meal preparation, pet care, running errands, or helping coordinate care with family, friends, and other service providers. My role is to ease the load so caregivers can tend to themselves as well as their loved one.

Bereavement Support

Compassionate care after loss

My support does not end with death. I offer gentle bereavement care for loved ones navigating grief and life after loss.

Grief is deeply personal and nonlinear. I provide a safe, supportive space to express emotions, share memories, and process the many layers of loss. Whether you are in the immediate aftermath or seeking ongoing support as you adjust to a changed world, I am here to walk beside you with compassion, presence, and understanding.
